Spotlight: Physio Success!
Last year, a patient named Gloria came to CAMTA for leg surgery. Now, a year later, she is doing well but still has some residual foot drop (an inability to fully flex her foot and lift it off the ground when walking). Yesterday, Gloria came in to chat about this ongoing difficulty with our Physiotherapy Team – and 24 hours later they found a solution!
Today, Kristen Redhead (Physiotherapist) and Ryan Wright (Family Physician) paid a visit to Ramiro Perez, an Orthopedist here in Quito who has worked with CAMTA in the past and is very keen to continue developing a relationship. At his workshop, Ramiro makes orthotics as well as custom shoe lifts and a variety of other assistive medical devices.

Kristen and Ryan were back at CAMTA before lunch, with a beautiful and locally-sourced custom Ankle Foot Orthosis. They are hoping to have Gloria come in to the hospital in the next few days to try it on; so stay tuned for photos and updates! We hope that this device will have a large positive impact on Gloria's quality of life following her CAMTA surgery.
