The bus to the hospital and the Tierra Nueva center for handicapped people.
Each morning as the team travels from the hotel to the hospital, we enjoy the activities on the streets. Here's a group of school girls headed to their studies.
At a bus stop, we saw children doing their homework whilst waiting. Perhaps it could have been done the evening before! It looks like Mom is helping.
Quito has a some very nice sculptures. We see this one of children dancing each morning opposite the park where we see seniors exercising.
This is actually not a typical scene. You don't see too many strollers in Quito.
After we arrived at the hospital on Friday, Augustin was standing in his door way. Augustin is a man we met in Cuenca in 2000. He and Len Bourdin equipped a rehab centre there together. Although Augustin is from Cuenca he moved to Quito. Just a year ago he partnered with the Tierra Nueva in a facility to manufacture wheel chairs and other aides for disabled kids and adullts.
Here's the sign above his door. He pays no rent and in return provides training in activities of daily living for handicapped kids and he provides employment to young adults who weld and do woodwork.
That afternoon we dropped in for a tour of the shop. The tricycle is being built for a child with osteogenesis imperfecta. Fern Cannon is next to Augustin. Deb Chalupa, Aline Taylor and Adela Sandigo look on.
The last few afternoons, Alberto who has driven one of the buses for the last four years has his granddaughter with him. Maria turns 10 next month. That's Fern on the left.
I apologize for tardy posting. We have completed the mission and the pack up process is arduous although this year the new inventory system designed by Dan Ducholke has helped a lot. Stay tuned for more patient photos and some shots of the final packing up.Thanks.John
