One child with a New Hip!

Today, Luisa came with her mother for surgery.  She has a dysplastic hip and she can't run and play with the other kids.  It left unattended that badly positioned hip will result in early osteoarthritis as an adult.  Here you see Mom and Luisa.  Luisa is 21 months of age and there are two other slightly older children in the family who are healthy.
I took this photo after surgery and as the child was awakening.  Left to right are RN's Eileen Guilfoyle and Joanne Kay, then medical student Melissa Angyalfi and respiratory therapist, Andy Escalona.  Dr. Elaine Forestell, Anesthesiologist is on the right.
While serious stuff was happening in the theatres, here you see translator, Elma Mehmedmegovic and travel and logistics coordinator, Matt Moreau cutting out hearts for above the patient's beds.
Then Luisa arrived in recovery room and Chris Douglas RN and Michelle Piwowar RN looked after her.  Melissa Martin is a graduate nurse and translator. She held that Luisa for a long time!Tomorrow I'll show you how Luisa is recovering.  Monday was busy!  We did five total hips on four adult patients and two other pediatric cases besides Luisa.  Fredy who is 12 received a tendon transfer about his wrist so he could extend it more successfully after an injury.  And Sofia received a clubfoot repair.Thanks.
