The ward is a busy place late in the week. Friday saw the first discharges of patients. Ken Jenkens is pictured giving discharge instructions to Panto Ja. He carefully explained through the interpreter about the precautions she should take for her hip. She had questions about diet and about her medication. Many of the patients ask about sex after a hip operation and physiotherapist Rachel Oates has prepared an instruction sheet to answer their questions. We were surprised about these questions a few years ago but why should we be? Many Ecuadorians enjoy life to the fullest in the midst of the struggle to keep their families fed and housed and educated.
