Change to pediatric anesthetia
First time volunteer, anesthesiologist Dave Cubitt got right into the spirit of CAMTA by suggesting an alternative way to deliver anesthesia to children. Traditionally oxygen has been used, but Dr. Cubitt wanted to use air. Air can splnt the alveoli open so that there is less chance of collapse and subsequently, pneumonia.
Carlos, the Tierra Nueva biomed was able to install an air line from the anesthesia machine to a wall outlet, so that pressurized air can be supplied from the anesthetic machine to the patient, thus providing a better quality of anesthesia for infants.
CAMTA ingenuity and teamwork in action!
