Relieving pain for a young boy

Liam was born with cerebral palsy. As a result he has been living with contractures that have made it difficult for the 7-year-old to sit and walk. They also caused painful spasms. The CAMTA team surgeons lengthened the tendons at his hips and knees which will allow him to straighten his legs more, and sit better.

Liam leans into Pediatric Anesthetist David Sommerfreund while being prepped for surgery.
Medical student Jessica Zapata and Nurse Deb Chalupa place a cast on Liam’s leg.
Liam with his mother Carmen Maribel on the ward. He will have his casts removed in about five weeks.
