Another Maria!
Born in 1977, 45 year-old Maria lives three hours away from Quito. She speaks Quechua not Spanish or English but she is really good at charades!
Measuring 4’5″ tall, this little lady is tough as nails, she got up for the first time and walked 20m, ditched her walker and walked another 60m and up the stairs to discharge she went!
Quechua is one of the indigenous languages spoken in Ecuador and Peru. Maria is from the south of Ecuador where it is much warmer than Quito. The average temperature where we are is 19°C and it is often raining, there is no central heat or air conditioning in the hospital. While we are all roasting, she’s been wrapped in a blanket and a toque!
