A Very Special Visit

People often ask what happens to our patients once we leave Quito. Nelly Maila is CAMTA’s social worker and our liaison here in Ecuador. She contacts all of our potential and past patients, arranges clinic day appointments as well as follow-ups throughout the week while we are here. This could also include any resources they may need after discharge.

Yesterday, a very special little man came to see our pediatric surgeons. CAMTA did his surgery in 2017 and hasn’t been able to connect with him since.

When we met Mekel, he was four years old and had never walked in his life. With some ingenuity on the part of the entire team, he was able to get up and moving in 2 days!

Now he loves to play soccer with his friends and can walk by himself without help! Not a dry eye in the house for that reunion.
