An environment for learners

From its early outset, CAMTA's mission included a strong educational component. It has always been important to CAMTA's founders that the team includes general students, nursing students, medical students and medical residents – and that these learners be actively involved in the mission's work. Not only does this inspire students to seek a deeper understanding of the global burden of surgically-treatable disabilities and of Ecuador's healthcare system more broadly, but involvement in the CAMTA mission also provides valuable opportunities for hands-on learning in a new environment. Above, orthopedic surgery resident Michael Goplen and 4th year medical student Caitlin Marchak have the chance to close following a hip replacement surgery under the supervision of Charlie Secretan (Adult Surgeon).
