Maria Juana Sinchi

Maria has been suffering from hip pain for over 20 years, but has not been able to receive any lasting treatment.  She and her husband Augustine have a farm in the Chimborazo Province of Ecuador where they grow legumes (such as corn and potatoes).  Chimborazo Province is located in central Ecuador and is the home of Ecuador's tallest mountain – Mount Chimborazo.  Mount Chimborazo is currently an inactive stratovolcano that has a peak elevation of 6300 meters above sea level.  The journey from Maria's farm to Quito is about five hours in duration including a 3-4 hour bus trip from Riobamba.

Maria saw an advertisement in the local newspaper about CAMTA.  She and her husband made the trip to Quito to try and get some relief for the hip pain that Maria's had been living with.  Maria is extremely grateful for the new lease on life that CAMTA has provided and is looking forward to being able to work more easily on the farm.
CAMTA team members gather around Maria as Martha Valencia (Translator) translates a very heart felt thank you letter that Augustine and Maria presented to CAMTA this morning.  From left to right: Dr. Alex Gessner (Family Practice Physician), Jay Valencia (Translator) Anna Hebert (Physiotherapist), Maria, Justine Ferguson (Physiotherapist Aide), Dr. Tim Kostamo (Adult Orthopedic Surgeon), Dr. Paul Leung (Adult Orthopedic Surgeon), Dr. Ryan Wright (Family Practice Physician), Dr. Olivier Gauthier-Kwan (Orthopedic Resident), Barb Furler (Physiotherapist).
Dr. Ryan Wright (Family Practice Physician), Anna Hebert (Physiotherapist), Sussana Gaviria (Translator), Erica Nelson (Adult Ward Nurse), Martha Valencia (Translator) extend best wishes to Maria as she gets ready to head home.
