Christian Baez
Some of the CAMTA stories are simply a matter of fate. After a long flight from Canada to Quito Adela Sandigo (Adult Ward Nurse) spent some of her free time on the day before the opening clinic visiting a local salon. While at the salon she noticed a precocious young boy playing around the shops. A long time veteran of CAMTA missions she noted that the boys gait was not normal and was possibly something that CAMTA could repair. After she was finished at the salon she went to see if she could find the boy or his parents. She was told that the boy and his mother had left, but that the mother worked in the store next to the salon. She left a note for the mother at the store, explaining what CAMTA was doing in Quito and inviting the mother and her son to the Sunday clinic for assessment. For further information she left the contact information for one of the nurses at the hospital. Luckily, the information was passed along and the mother followed up on the tip.
Adela Sandigo (Adult Ward Nurse) and Christian get to meet properly before Christian has his surgery.
Christian had surgery on both feet and will be back running soon. His mother commented that the surgery will be life changing for Christian as he was being bullied at school because of his gait and had often come home in tears.
Christian and his mother relax after surgery.
