Spotlight: Recovery &The Ward

The ward team checks in with little Janina on post-op day one

After surgery, patients are transferred to the recovery room adjacent to the OR, and closely monitored by Dasha Johnston (Paeditric R.R. Nurse), Mairi Gordon (Adult R.R. Nurse), and Dedra Scott (Respiratory Therapist). Once they awake from anesthesia, they are taken up to their room on ward where they will continue their recovery. On the ward, we have doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and translators who work as a team to deliver incredible patient care.

Physiotherapists help restore movement and function following surgery. Following total hip replacements, our physiotherapists teach patients how to alter their activities of daily living until they are completely recovered, including sitting and standing, entering and exiting a car, putting on socks, and even discuss intimate activities. Our physiotherapists also instruct patients on how to walk safely and efficiently with crutches, and how to tackle stairs.
