Milena's Spica and her Gringito

The surgeons fixate the repositioned hip in a Spica cast. It is molded after surgery, while the child is still under anesthesia.
Milena had hip dysplasia. The surgical team repositioned her hip to recreate a more natural anatomy, which will allow it to develop normally. At two and a half years old, Milena understood what was going on during the pre-operation checks, but was very unsettled after surgery. She could not understand why an IV line had appeared in her arm, and why she woke up from a nap wearing a massive pink cast (called a spica)…
Milena received a small teddy bear after surgery. They named him… Gringito! It is a loving word for “gringo” which itself means “foreigner”.
