Another Surprise!

Representatives from Tierra Nueva Foundation, some CAMTA members and staff from Un Canta A La Vida Hospital squeezed in together for a group photo.

Special visitors surprised us again with delicious Ecuadorian food! Our close collaborators in the hospital (Nelly Mayela, Dr. Orlando Suarez, Marta Chassi) and members of the Tierra Nueva Foundation (Patricia Jarrin, Gloria Davila and Beatriz Rivadeneira) brought over cakes and wine to toast CAMTA.

For most Latin American countries, the number fifteen holds a special value in their traditions. What is a “sweet sixteen” for north Americans is a “quinacera” for Ecuadorians. The young men and women are officially presented to society in a day of festivities. Similarly, they wanted to celebrate CAMTA's 15 years publically. Special thanks were offered to the team members who have been with CAMTA for fifteen years. Just to double the reasons to celebrate, Tierra Nueva Foundation confirmed that the 2017 mission brought the number of treated patients to over a thousand.

It did not only look good… it was delicious! 

For individuals with no hope of regaining a normal lifestyle without surgery, and with no means of paying for one, the work CAMTA has done here for more than a 1000 patients impacts all their families and their communities.

Toby Cubitt (Translator) soothes a young girl with a spunky personality. Surgeons are surprised by the quick progress she made post-surgery: she went home and is expected to lead a completely normal life from now on.
