High School Kids Heard the CAMTA Buzz Last Year

Andrea Vela and Daniela Rosales have come to the hospital for the morning as volunteer translators. They heard the buzz from kids who volunteered from their school last year and want to be part of the CAMTA experience and help in the community. Great to have them with us!

Morning Rounds on the Ward

The nursing and physio teams do morning rounds to check on our patients and assess their healing progress. Depending on how they are doing, the physio team might start patients with bed exercises or get them on their feet to walk.

Jorge is Proud of being Fit

Jorge Upiano Lopez Enrique is proud to tell us he came fifth in a 10 kilometre race in 1980. Jorge is now 53 years old, farms vegetables near Carchi and is clearly still a fit man. He first felt pain in his hip five years ago, and nine months ago had an x-ray that confirmed he needed a hip replacement. Jorge came out of surgery yesterday at noon, was walking with no pain by 5:00 pm and is ready to be discharged this afternoon. Not only is Jorge proud of his past running prowess, but he is also proud of all his children whose ages range from 24 to 10 years old; he added that his 22 year-old daughter has down syndrome. He gave us hugs as he poised to leave on crutches. So did his wife, with brimming eyes.

Team Ingenuity for Alejandros

Remember Alejandros? We first met him in pre-op as he gulped down that nasty tasting medicine. Look at him now! Toby and the team devised a prop for his leg to keep it elevated and showed him how to navigate in the wheelchair. Now he gets to go home.
