Day 7 update

Day 7 update –  a thank you to our local partners and volunteers

The week draws to a close and this is the last day of surgeries. Lots of patients are happy to be able to go home.

Jose is CAMTA's oldest patient at 79. He is ready to head home with his wife and daughter two days after his hip replacement. Student nurse “Dr. Steve” (as Jose calls him) Harkema and local volunteer translator Manuela make sure that Jose understands his post operation routine and medication.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Paul Leung sends one of his happy patients home.

Volunteers from the local international school join the CAMTA team throughout the week to help with translation. From left: Christina (Adriana's mom), Adriana, Sara and Heidi (who is visiting from Norway) are today's student volunteers.

From left: Social worker Nelly and CAMTA founding members retired nurse, Eileen Guilfoyle and Anesthesiologist, Dr. John Lilley. Nelly is the link between CAMTA and the patients. She prescreens all patients to ensure they are eligible to receive the free surgery. She works with Fundacion Tierra Nueva. To find out more click: http://www.fundaciontierranueva.org/ftn/

Medical Director and Brigade Leader, Dr. Patricia Jarrin from hospital “Un Conto a la Vida”, scrubbing in with the CAMTA team to consult on closure of the wound. Dr. Jarrin is a plastic surgeon and has worked with CAMTA from its first mission. She is also the link between CAMTA and the Ecuadorian government.

The CAMTA OR and Recovery room team builds bonds with their local counterparts.

CAMTA thanks all of the local partners, staff and volunteers that are a big part of making the mission a success. THANK YOU!!!!
