Clinic Day
Dustin Rendon, Damon Rendon and Ryan Sanchez
In 2002, during the first CAMTA mission, Dustin Rendon (1 year old at the time) presented to the hospital with a club foot and was selected as a patient eligible for surgery by the CAMTA team. Over the course of three years, Dustin would undergo 2 surgeries and extensive rehabilitation to correct his feet and return his mobility. During his treatment, Dustin and his brother met John Lilley (Anesthetist) and Eileen Guilfoyle (Pediatric OR Nurse) – members of the original CAMTA team. The four bonded immediately and saw each other during subsequent missions. John and Eileen have supported the boys throughout their lives, so much so that Dustin and Damon call them their Godparents. When the boys were in Grade 4, John and Eileen sponsored Dustin and Damon so that they could attend Colegio Letort in Quito. Three years ago, Dustin and Damon joined the CAMTA team as translators. This year, the boys will be finishing high school. Dustin hopes to pursue medicine while Damon enjoys engineering – hoping to focus on biomechanics and work with his brother in the future.
Ryan Sanchez got involved with CAMTA through his mom Miluska Sanchez. Miluska was a part of the Canadian Women of Ecuador through the Canadian Embassy and subsequently got involved with CAMTA.
