Continuity of Care
One of the most heartwarming things to see during clinic day is the follow up of patients who have received surgery from CAMTA in previous years. While a two-week visit to Ecuador every year may seem at first glance like short term work, CAMTA's work involves significant continuity of care, long-term follow up and relationship building with the surgical patients.
Dr. Paul (Adult Surgeon) and Marita (Translator) speak with a patient about follow up.
Today, for example, we saw a patient who received a hip replacement from the CAMTA team last year. During her consultation today, we learned about her return to work after the surgery and ongoing improvements in function. This patient also had the opportunity to ask her surgeon questions and make adjustments to a shoe implant she had been wearing to ensure the optimal ongoing management.
We also had the chance to see several children who had received surgeries from CAMTA last year, and are now doing well – just look at this cheeky face!
