Getting busy in the “kitchen”
Lay teaam members Karen Calhoun, Christa Gelasco and Elysia Dziwenka get down while getting busy scrubbing instruments.
The instrument cleaning room is affectionately known as the kitchen. Having clean, sterile instruments is a must for surgical procedures and scrubbing the instruments is a laborious task. While it is hard, hot work getting the instruments clean and ready, the lay team always find a way to have a little bit of fun.
Each instrument used in a procedure is scrubbed, soaked and rinsed, dried and wrapped. Every tool is inspected repeatedly throughout the cleaning process to ensure that everything is sparkling at the end of the line.
Lay team members Sara McGale and Sarah Ngo dry and re-inspect the instruments before they get wrapped up and ready for the sterilizer.
