When securing instrument pans, the method preferred by our host-hospital is to tie cotton rope around the wrapped pans before putting them into the steam sterilizer.  The Canadian team method is to secure the instrument pans with tape. Occasionally, while in the sterilizer, the tape would break rendering the sets unsterile and therefore unusable.  

Ecuadorian nurse, Gina, pictured below shows the CAMTA team how to secure the pans with rope. 

This method saves money as less tape is needed and the ropes are reusable.
