The Importance of Patient Education and Follow-Up

Matheo is 2 years old and has travelled six hours from the jungle region of Tena with his mother and an NGO worker from Timmy to have his knee misalignment examined by the CAMTA team. He has previously been wearing orthopedic boots and his mother is concerned by the ease with which he often falls whilst walking or running. This is Matheo's first time being seen by CAMTA and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Neil Saran reassures his mother that this alignment is not yet of concern. He educates her on the sitting positions he should avoid, as well as discourages the use of braces which are very expensive for the family and are unlikely to help. Matheo is likely to outgrow his mild misalignment and is scheduled for a follow-up appointment with CAMTA next year.
