Week One – Monday's blog

Alexander, a 3 year old boy gets prepped for his surgery.  Alexander had his femur shortened and his hip realigned before being put into a cast.

In Canada new born babies are checked for congenital dislocation of the hip.  If any defects are found, a brace is put on the baby before the condition gets worse and results in maybe requiring a total hip replacement in the future.

Wlaimir, a returning CAMTA patient gets 6 screws and a plate removed from each of his femurs.  CAMTA surgeons installed the plates and screws as part of a previous surgery to correct his misaligned hip.

Physiotherapists Joanne and Rachel use their creative skills to make sock aids out of plastic bottles, washers and string.

Rachel demonstrates that the sock aid works similar to a shoe horn.  These are designed for patients with movement restrictions after their surgery.

Layperson, Peter with the assistance of Hannah, a translator, go to pick up miscellaneous supplies at a nearby shopping mall.

The CAMTA team gathers to celebrate a very long first day of successful surgeries. A delicious meal is shared and many of us indulge in the irresistible desserts.  The delicious food and desserts have made Crepes & Waffles a regular place to eat for the CAMTA team.  In Columbia and in Ecuador the food chain is well known for hiring women who are a single parents.
